Sweet spot

The "sweet spot" is the place whereupon the placing of a mic will garner the best sound. It is a common phrase to discuss the optimal place for a microphone when recording any assortment of instruments. However it is also a very subjective term for the sweet spot will vary greatly depending on instrument, room, playing style and content, and desired sound.
The "sweet spot" can also be referred to in monitoring/mixing, similarly to above it is the position directly between the monitors where you are not subject to phasing problems.
