ASIO

ASIO is a cross-platform audio driver standard developed by Steinberg. ASIO stands for Audio Stream Input/Output. If an ASIO driver is available for your hardware, it is typically the best choice for stability and low latency as compared to DirectX or WDM drivers.

Steinberg recently released ASIO version 2.4, which adds better support for 64-bit audio and compatibility with Apple's new Intel-based Mac's.
