What Is Shure?

Shure is one of the oldest and most trusted microphone and audio equipment designers and manufacturers in the world.

History

Shure was founded in 1925 by Sidney N. Shure. Originally called the "Shure Radio Company", Shure introduced its first microphone in 1932.

Shure created the first single-element unidirectional microphone in 1939, ushering in their tradition of innovation and quality.

In 1941, Shure supplied the U.S. Armed forces with microphones for use during World War II.

In 1965, Shure introduced the now ubiquitous SM 57, the microphone used by every president since Lyndon Johnson.

Shure's Educational Publications

Shure is also known for freely distributing its own audio recording Educational Publications.

A complete list of these Educational Publications can be found at Shure's Website

Note Worthy Products

Shure's SM 57 dynamic microphone and its nearly identical brother (they use the same capsule), the SM 58, are some of the most popular dynamic microphone models ever made. It is difficult, if not impossible, to find a professional studio which does not count these microphones in their arsenal; they are also used extensively in live applications. The SM 57 is also known for being used by every American president since Lyndon Johnson.

Other note worthy products include:

  • Beta 52- A large diaphragm dynamic microphone commonly used on kick drums and bass amplifiers.
  • SM-81- A small diaphragm condenser microphone commonly used for drum overheads and other acoustic instruments.
  • Beta 91- A boundary style microphone commonly used for kick drums.
  • SM7B- A dynamic mic popular with broadcasters aswell as producers.
  • Green Bullet- A dynamic mic designed specifically for the harmonica.

Shure's latest range of microphones is Performance Gear (PG), which offers budget versions of the popular SM  & Beta ranges.
