Shock Mount

What is a Shock Mount?

A shock mount is the usually elastic or rubber attachment for a mic stand that holds what is usually a higher quality microphone.

The more sensitive condenser and ribbon microphones pick up sound easily from the stand so a shock mount attempts to prevent this.

Dynamic microphones tend not to have this problem so use normal microphone clips. However, in active situations with performers who grab the mic stand, they can be used to reduce usage noise.

Buying Shock Mounts

When buying Shock Mounts be very careful to match your microphones make and model with the shock mount. Not all shockmounts work for all microphones and using the wrong one could easily cause your microphone to take a deadly drop to the floor.
