Multi-band Compression

Multi-band compression is a relatively recent development in audio. It is most commonly used in mastering and for radio applications. A multi-band compressor basically splits the audio into separate channels much the same as a crossover would in a speaker system allowing you to work with each section separately before recombining the signals into one. multi-band compressors remade in digital form have made them more common in mixing, the most common ones produced by Waves, and Soundforge. The different bands allow you to have different sort of compression on different types of the signal, as well as having it be triggered by different frequencies, this ability can potentially avoid more audible pumping at increased compression rates.
