Digidesign

Digidesign is a digital audio company. It was founded in 1984 by Peter Gotcher and Evan Brooks. The company began as a project to raise money for the founders' band, selling EPROM chips for drum machines. It grew to be one of the leading providers of hardware and software for digital recording. Their flagship DAW Pro Tools is the leading software in recording studios around the world. It comes in two major flavours Pro Tools TDM that is coupled with HD hardware or Pro Tools LE that can be used with the companies Mbox 2 and 003. The acquisition of M-Audio has introduced Pro Tools M-Powered that is a limited version of Pro Tools compatible with M-Audio recording hardware.
History
- 1984 - Founded as DigiDrums (later DigiDesign) by Gotcher and Brooks.
- 1991 - Digidesign launches Pro Tools, marking a significant advance in digital audio. This integrated software and hardware system ( digital audio workstation) is among the most popular for audio production for television, music, and film.
- 1995 - Avid Technology acquires Digidesign. Digidesign now operates as a business unit of Avid.
- 2003 - Avid acquires Bomb Factory's extensive product catalog. Some of these products are now included with Pro Tools systems other available for purchase.
- 2004 - Avid acquires M-Audio, which now operates as a business unit of Digidesign.
- 2005 - Avid acquires Wizoo.
