DBX 160 Compressor
From WikiRecording
The DBX series 160 Compressor/Limiter is one of the lowest cost and highest rated compressor seen in almost every live venue and live sound setup and even in quality recording studios around the world. The 160A can be controlled manually or with an "ultra-musical program dependent attack and relase times" mode that attempts to find a desired attack and release. It uses RMS peak detection as well as supports balanced and unbalanced inputs/outputs. Can also be linked in a stereo pair. A newer DBX 166 also includes a gate in the unit.
Ratios: 1:1->infinity:1, also has a "negative" compression setting.
Attack: Program dependent; typically 15ms for 10dB, 5ms for 20dB, 3ms for 30dB
Release: Program Dependent; Typically 8ms for 1dB, 80ms for 10dB, 400ms for 50dB; 125dB/sec rate
Knee: an "over easy" soft knee and a "classic hard" knee can be set.
