Impulse Response Reverb (IR Reverb)

A Convolution reverb uses a .wav file of the impulse response (IR) of the room and applies it to the your track to recreate what it might have sounded like if it had been in the room where the IR was recorded. They can produce some of the more accurate reproduction of a reverb sound in comparison to cheap reverb plugins most often found in your DAW. Check the free plugins page to read up on the JKIRR a great free IR reverb. An impulse response contains both the early reflections as well as the late reflection or reverb in a room.

IR Reverbs are created by setting some type of speaker and then microphones in the desired listening place and recording the way the room alters the sound produced from the speaker and picked up by the microphones. Because no seat in the house sounds the same you can find IR's from various different seats and locations in famous opera and other acoustically amazing buildings.
